Naver said on Thursday it has upgraded its education search so users can check university departments and admissions information in one place.
With the update, users can search university and department names to view basic information on about 200 universities and some 7,000 departments, including selection methods, employment rates and tuition.
If users search for a department along with elective subjects, such as "Hanyang University mechanical engineering elective subjects", it also provides recommended electives for the department based on data from 44 universities that have announced recommended subjects.
It also shows admissions information directly in search results. If users search for terms such as "Yonsei University regular admissions" or "Kyung Hee University economics early admissions", they can check items including admission guidelines, application schedules, competition ratios, academic grade tiers and converted scores based on materials from university admissions offices.
Naver reflected the information in search results by structuring data scattered across university admissions offices, school websites and the college admissions information portal ADIGA.
On its education-focused service Naver Edu, it provides elementary, middle and high school information along with university, department and admissions track information. Through its elective subject guide, users can check university-by-university recommended subjects and subjects that fit their career path, and also plan a three-year high school course schedule.
In November, it also plans to add a function that lets users enter preliminary score results to check expected grade tiers and compare candidates for regular admissions applications based on universities' converted scores.
Naver will also overhaul its CSAT search on the 27th.
Before the exam, it will provide major schedules, timetables, items to prepare and past questions from the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation, and on the test day it will guide users on the session currently under way.
After each subject test ends, it will provide summaries of the latest news and admissions institute analyses through an artificial intelligence (AI) briefing. After the exam ends, it will allow users to check, on one screen, expected grade cutoffs, raw scores, standard scores and percentile ranks announced by multiple admissions institutes.
Naver has been expanding its education search in line with the implementation of the high school credit system last year. After improving mock exam search in August and improving search for elementary, middle and high school information and elective subjects in early September, it has now expanded the scope to include universities and admissions.
Yang Mi-seung (양미승), head of Naver's education search, said, "We will support users so they can easily find the information they need across the entire education process, from school life to college admissions, by connecting official data to the context in which it is needed."
