Fast electric vehicle charging operator Chabi will move to build electric bus charging infrastructure in Bali, Indonesia. Chabi said on Friday it will participate with Hyundai Motor in the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)-led “Bali, Indonesia eco-friendly electric bus transport system project.” Chabi will be responsible for building a fast-charging solution for electric buses under the project.
The project totals 9.2 billion won. It is a pilot programme to deploy electric vehicles and charging infrastructure with official development assistance (ODA) support from South Korea’s Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the company said. It aims for local expansion of South Korean eco-friendly vehicles and charging technology and the realisation of carbon neutrality, it added.
Chabi will handle building and supplying the charging infrastructure, while Hyundai Motor will supply the electric buses. It is the first public transport electrification project 추진 in Bali, and an example of two South Korean companies entering an overseas market together through cooperation.
The chargers Chabi will supply are high-output fast chargers dedicated to mid-sized electric buses. They can charge in a short time and were designed to match local climate and power conditions to improve operational stability, the company said.
Along with delivering the chargers, Chabi will work with a local partner to oversee the full process, including installation and test runs, early-stage operational stabilisation and maintenance training. The plan is also to build operational capacity for charging infrastructure in Indonesia during the process.
Choi Young-hoon (최영훈), CEO of Chabi, said being selected as the final supplier for the GGGI-led ODA project showed its charging technology and operational capabilities had been recognised internationally. He said the company would use the project as a springboard to actively respond to demand for eco-friendly transport infrastructure across Southeast Asia beyond Indonesia and expand the supply of locally tailored charging solutions.
