[DigitalToday intern reporter Seung-a Yoo] Selling is spreading across global stock markets, led by technology shares.
On Oct. 22, CNBC reported that U.S. stock index futures fell and Asian and European markets were broadly weaker. With semiconductor shares under pressure again, investors are reacting more sensitively to forward guidance than to earnings results.
Tesla beat market expectations for its third-quarter results, but its shares fell in premarket trade. Declines in average selling prices and a shortage of battery supply weighed on revenue. Elon Musk said the robotaxi business would not "have a game-changing impact this quarter."
Meta also beat market expectations for quarterly revenue and rose in after-hours trading, but later turned lower in premarket trade. With Wall Street earnings results mixed, investors appear to be putting more weight on Tesla's disappointing outlook than on Meta's strong results.
Chinese stocks also weakened. The CSI300 index, which tracks 300 large-cap shares listed in Shanghai and Shenzhen, fell 20 percent from its June peak to enter a bear market. The decline extended to a 10th straight week.
In contrast, long-term money flowing into China is increasing. The latest data confirmed by CNBC showed sovereign wealth fund investment in China rose 190 percent from 2025, and billions of dollars are flowing back into the Chinese market.
Expectations for demand for artificial intelligence infrastructure persisted. Jensen Huang (젠슨 황), Nvidia's chief executive, said in an exclusive CNBC interview that demand for neocloud providers is "off the charts."
Cybersecurity concerns also came to the fore. A vulnerability was found in the open-source programming language PHP, which is used to build websites, prompting governments in several countries to take websites offline. Google, OpenAI and Amazon are participating in efforts to identify the vulnerability and protect systems.
Oil prices rose. Brent and West Texas Intermediate crude gained early in the session, with geopolitical conditions contributing to the rise.
In the market, forward guidance and various risk factors had a bigger impact on investor sentiment than corporate results. With Tesla's robotaxi outlook and weakness in Chinese stocks weighing on sentiment, attention is on how AI infrastructure demand and money flows into China will affect market direction.
