In-app purchase revenue in Korea's short-form drama app market hit a record high in August.

Sensor Tower said on Wednesday that in-app purchase revenue in Korea's short-form drama app market in August rose about 28 percent from the previous month.

So far in 2026, NetShort ranks first in in-app purchase revenue in Korea, followed by DramaBox and DramaWave. Domestic platform Vigloo ranked fourth and FlickReels fifth.

Four of the top five were overseas platforms, with foreign operators leading the top tier of revenue in the domestic market.

Among domestic platforms, Vigloo showed notable growth. Vigloo recorded its second-highest monthly in-app purchase revenue since its launch in August.

Revenue was not concentrated only in Korea. So far this year, Korea accounted for 40.5 percent of Vigloo's global in-app purchase revenue, while 59.5 percent came from overseas markets including the United States at 17.7 percent and Japan at 11.6 percent.

User age also differed. From January to September this year, users aged 18 to 34 accounted for 53.7 percent of Vigloo's users, 18.2 percentage points higher than the average of about 35.5 percent for the four overseas platforms used for comparison.

The share of users using both app and web was also relatively high. Vigloo had 32.9 percent using only its website and 9.6 percent using both app and web, the highest among the five platforms compared.

By contrast, DramaBox had 99.2 percent using only the app, while DramaWave and NetShort also showed app-centric usage patterns at 90.1 percent and 83.2 percent, respectively.

Short-form drama apps are also taking a larger share of revenue in the entertainment app market. From January to September 2026, two short-form drama apps were included among the top 10 entertainment apps by in-app purchase revenue, accounting for 9.4 percent, the data showed.
