Neocloud company Nscale is discussing an additional $45 billion AI computing supply contract with Anthropic, Reuters reported on Oct. 19, citing sources. Bloomberg first reported the matter.

Nscale is in talks with Anthropic over a second building to be built at the 'Monarch' data centre campus in West Virginia, the report said. The building would provide 460 megawatts of computing power using Nvidia's latest AI chip, 'Vera Rubin'. Anthropic agreed in August to lease $45 billion worth of AI computing power at the campus.

A source said Anthropic also has the right of first negotiation for a third building at the Monarch campus. Discussions are still under way and details could change.

News of the talks came after Microsoft withdrew its data centre contract with Nscale.

Microsoft withdrew the contract after a delay in connecting to the power grid pushed the supply timeline into the 2030s.

Nscale increased the total value of its contracts to more than $103 billion from $100 million in 2.5 years. It is competing with Nebius, Crusoe and Lambda in the neocloud market. Reuters reported that Nscale's IPO prospectus says Microsoft and Anthropic will be major customers going forward.
