Apple has hired a legal specialist from Meta and reorganised its global litigation response organisation. With legal challenges growing, including antitrust lawsuits and patent disputes, it is moving to strengthen its capabilities by integrating legal and government affairs work.
According to IT outlet 9to5Mac, Apple hired Scott Tucker (스콧 터커), who worked at Meta for about 6 years, as vice president for global litigation and financial services. Tucker served at Meta as vice president of global litigation and deputy general counsel. Before joining Meta in 2021, he held a senior legal role at Morgan Stanley.
In the newly created role, he will oversee commercial and patent litigation worldwide and Apple’s legal work related to financial services.
Tucker’s hiring extends Apple’s legal organisation overhaul that began earlier this year. In March, Apple appointed Jennifer Newstead (제니퍼 뉴스테드), who had been Meta’s chief legal officer, as its new top legal executive. She succeeded Kate Adams (케이트 애덤스), the previous legal chief.
Newstead’s remit expanded to include government affairs after Lisa Jackson (리사 잭슨) retired, integrating Apple’s legal and government relations organisations. Tim Cook is also directly involved in managing key government relationships.
Apple also pushed personnel changes in the related organisation, including hiring Nate Gatten (네이트 개튼), formerly of American Airlines, as vice president for government affairs.
Tucker’s arrival also changes internal reporting lines. Heather Grenier (헤더 그레니어), vice president for commercial and competition litigation, will report directly to Tucker instead of Newstead. She will continue to participate in Newstead’s legal leadership team.
The role of long-serving legal executive Kyle Andeer (카일 안디어) has also expanded. Andeer will take on additional work involving international legal issues, online child safety, cybersecurity and law enforcement.
The appointments come as Apple faces legal issues including antitrust disputes over the App Store. Attention is focused on what changes key hires from Meta will bring to Apple’s legal strategy.
