[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] The iPhone 18 Pro’s core strengths were cited as battery life, the main camera and heat control performance.

On Oct. 16 (local time), tech media outlet 9to5Mac shared a review based on about a month of using the iPhone 18 Pro, naming those three as the most impressive elements.

The first change mentioned was the battery. From its unveiling, the iPhone 18 Pro put endurance front and center, going so far as to compare battery time with the iPhone 17 Pro Max. The review said the improvement was clearly felt in real use. The user said they barely had to think about charging during the day and that “almost every day, the battery is about 60 percent left by the end of the day.” The review also mentioned that the larger-screen iPhone 18 Pro Max would have even more battery headroom.

The battery assessment focused on changes in daily usage patterns rather than simple battery-life figures. The review also said that users coming from older iPhones would likely be satisfied whichever Pro model size they choose. It said Apple’s stronger push on battery upgrades this year translated into real-world gains.

On the camera, changes to the main camera were presented as the biggest differentiator. Apple has in recent years put more weight on improving the telephoto, ultra-wide and front-facing cameras, but this year the main camera with a variable aperture took center stage, the review said. The user said, “The iPhone 18 Pro’s main camera with a variable aperture is the star of this year.”

Another notable point was that results improved even without actively using professional shooting controls. The user said they were not particularly interested in pro-grade manual controls and did not often change the aperture directly, but they repeatedly got satisfying photos using automatic settings alone. Most shots were taken at f/1.48 and some at f/1.8, the user said. The review did not explain the detailed shooting principles, but said satisfaction with the photo results themselves was high.

In environments with frequent outdoor use, changes to the cooling design were cited as a factor that made a noticeable difference. The iPhone 18 Pro’s vapor-chamber cooling was assessed as helping maintain usability in bright and warm weather. Earlier iPhones sometimes suffered performance drops on hot days or under strong sunlight, and slow responsiveness when trying to capture a moment with the camera had been pointed out as an inconvenience.

The iPhone 18 Pro was described as different. The user said, “The device sometimes gets a bit warm, but I have never felt performance lag,” adding, “The vapor chamber cools the device enough to maintain the level of iPhone experience I expect.” The point was not that heat was eliminated entirely, but that it reduced how often heat led to actual performance degradation.

The review drew attention for emphasizing changes in feel rather than the mere presence of new features. The battery reduced the burden of charging, the main camera let even auto-setting-focused users feel improvement in results, and the cooling design increased stability for outdoor shooting and long periods of use. It said the iPhone 18 Pro’s changes showed up more clearly in everyday experience than on a spec sheet.
