One store said on Oct. 19 it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with global fintech firm Airwallex to build global payment infrastructure.
Under the agreement, the two companies plan to connect payment methods that support cards and card-based simple payments in about 200 countries to the One store platform.
The secured payment methods will be applied to One store Global and One shop. The key is to allow developers in and outside South Korea to link cards in major overseas markets and local payment methods at once through One store.
When developers offer games overseas, they must respond to country-by-country payment requirements and local payment systems and face the burden of managing multiple payment agencies. One store and Airwallex agreed to cooperate to cut such operational burdens by integrating payment infrastructure.
Airwallex is a global payments company founded in Melbourne, Australia, in 2015. It holds more than 85 financial licences across North America, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific, and provides services to about 670,000 companies worldwide.
One store plans to use Airwallex's payment network so overseas users can use payment methods familiar in their local markets. It also plans to support the payment linkages needed in developers' global service process.
The two companies will gradually expand the scope of cooperation related to global payments, starting with this MOU.
One store Chief Executive Officer Jang Hyun-kuk (장현국) said the core of the cooperation is to provide developers with a path to enter global markets and users with the experience of paying with familiar methods in any country. He added he would help more games go global.
Kim Keun-bin (김근빈), head of Korea enterprise at Airwallex, said the company will seek synergies between One store's developer ecosystem and Airwallex's global payment network. He added it will support developers and publishers to simplify global payments during overseas expansion.
