LG Uplus said on Tuesday it conducted a special inspection of the telecommunications network at Jamsil Baseball Stadium ahead of the 2026 professional baseball postseason.
Jamsil Baseball Stadium will enter remodeling after the end of this season. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) said 23,750 people attended postseason games at the stadium last year, selling out every seat. That was about 15 percent more than the regular-season average attendance of 20,645 per game.
LG Uplus began pre-emptive network checks to prepare for higher telecommunications traffic caused by crowd concentration during the postseason. On Oct. 13, it optimised antennas inside and outside the stadium and measured on-site telecommunications quality. It also carried out traffic control using an AI agent and worked to optimise network parameters.
It has also continued work to expand existing telecommunications infrastructure. It increased 5G equipment by about 1.5 times compared with the early days of commercialisation. It periodically replaced antennas to ensure LTE signals are evenly delivered inside the stadium. It also inspected and replaced aging WiFi equipment and deployed additional mobile base stations for key games such as the Korean Series and playoffs to respond to rising communications demand.
Kwak Jun-young (곽준영), head of Seoul metropolitan infrastructure at LG Uplus, said postseason crowds were expected to rise by about 15 percent compared with the regular-season average at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, and data usage was also expected to increase by a similar amount. "We will do our utmost to provide the best call quality without interruptions even when large crowds gather at once," he said.
