Quantum computing company IonQ is acquiring cybersecurity startup Elicity for $1.3 billion, SiliconANGLE reported on Oct. 12 local time.

Elicity provides a software platform that automatically identifies devices connected to corporate networks. It can identify not only employee PCs and servers but also devices such as factory sensors. It also collects information such as each device maker and the user connected to it.

Elicity uses the collected information to detect security vulnerabilities. In particular, it helps identify devices with excessively broad access privileges. The Elicity platform automatically creates safer access policies for vulnerable devices, and administrators can test the policies in advance using a simulation tool before applying them.

IonQ plans to add features after the acquisition to find and fix “quantum-related security risks” in Elicity.

IonQ CEO Niccolo de Masi (니콜로 데 마시) said Elicity’s proven enterprise policy enforcement capabilities and implementation experience will be added to a quantum security strategy. He said it will be a strong foundation for growth that will support customers and increase shareholder value.
