The KOSPI extended its record run on Tuesday and broke above 4,700 for the first time.
As of 9:28 a.m., the KOSPI was up 10.44 points, or 0.23 percent, at 4,703.40. It opened down 7.53 points, or 0.16 percent, at 4,685.11, but soon turned higher and rose to as much as 4,706.33.
Individuals and institutions were net buyers of 154.9 billion won and 149.0 billion won, respectively. Foreigners were net sellers of 318.3 billion won, posting net selling for a fifth straight session.
Samsung Electronics was up 0.33 percent at 138,500 won, while SK Hynix rose 0.81 percent to 744,000 won.
Among other top market-cap stocks, Samsung Biologics rose 1.36 percent, SK Square gained 0.82 percent, Doosan Enerbility added 0.46 percent and Kia climbed 4.12 percent. LG Energy Solution fell 0.38 percent, Hyundai Motor slipped 1.11 percent, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries dropped 2.02 percent and Hanwha Aerospace lost 2.26 percent.
