Tesla CEO Elon Musk has donated at least $276 million to Republican-linked groups ahead of the U.S. midterm elections in November. Contrary to past comments that he would cut political spending, he has become the Republicans' biggest disclosed donor.

The Verge reported on Sunday that Musk has provided more than $276 million to Republican-linked political groups since July. It is the largest amount among individual donors whose contributions have been disclosed for the midterms.

The biggest recipient was the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a super PAC aiming to keep Republicans' Senate majority status. Musk donated $158 million to the group. It is among the largest donations in U.S. political history, and some of the money is being used in a Texas Senate race, a key base for Musk's businesses.

More than $76 million was also put into America PAC, which Musk founded in 2024. The group is conducting door-to-door campaigning and voter-turnout efforts targeting Republican-leaning voters who are hard to reach.

Musk also donated $20 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, which supports Republican House candidates, and $10 million to Lone Star Liberty PAC, which backs Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton (켄 팩스턴). He also provided $10 million to the Republican Governors Association.

Based on the full 2025 to 2026 election cycle, Musk's political spending totals about $366 million. That exceeds the roughly $290 million he spent to support President Trump's re-election in 2024. About $90 million of this cycle's spending was used for costs related to previous elections and other political activities.

Musk said in May last year that he would sharply cut future political spending, but his actual donations have expanded instead.

Republicans are using Musk's large sums of money to step up campaigning to maintain their majority status in both the Senate and the House. The political influence of billionaire donors in U.S. midterm elections is also drawing renewed attention.
