[Digital Today reporter Jae-won Choi] Hyundai Motor is reportedly preparing 2 electric sports utility vehicles (SUVs) that could be called the Ioniq 4 and Ioniq 7 to step up its push into Europe’s electric vehicle market.

Electrek reported on Sept. 29 that Hyundai Motor is expected to introduce a small electric SUV aimed between the Ioniq 3 and Ioniq 5 and a family electric SUV to fill the gap between the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9 within the next 12 to 18 months. Hyundai has not officially announced the model names or detailed specifications.

The smaller model is widely being mentioned as the Ioniq 4. It is expected to be a B-segment SUV with a boxier design closer to a traditional SUV than the Ioniq 3. Chris McKinnon (크리스 맥키넌), vice president for products at Hyundai Motor Europe, avoided giving a specific answer when asked whether it was preparing a model similar to the Kia EV3, but said the market is important to Hyundai.

The battery is expected to come in 42 kWh and 61 kWh options similar to the Ioniq 3, but that is not confirmed. The Ioniq 3’s official projected WLTP range is 344 km and 496 km, respectively. The next-generation infotainment system, Pleos Connect, has also been mentioned as a possible feature. Hyundai Motor plans to expand Pleos Connect to new models, starting with the Ioniq 3.

The larger model has been floated under the name Ioniq 7. It is expected to be a family SUV with a larger interior than the Ioniq 5 and a second-row layout, or a third row that can be used as needed, while coming in smaller and cheaper than the Ioniq 9. Single- and dual-motor options and an 800-volt EV architecture have also been raised as possibilities.

Expected prices in Britain are being discussed at around 25,000 pounds (44.87 million won) for the Ioniq 4 and 45,000 to 50,000 pounds (80.77 million to 89.75 million won) for the Ioniq 7. If the two models materialise, Hyundai Motor will more tightly fill gaps in its European electric vehicle lineup from the Ioniq 3 to the Ioniq 9.
