Microsoft appears to have effectively stopped using the 'Copilot Plus PC' brand.

The Verge reported on Thursday that the newly unveiled 12-inch Surface Pro and 13-inch Surface Laptop technically meet the system requirements for a 'Copilot Plus PC', but Microsoft is no longer using the name.

Brett Ostrum (브렛 오스트롬), corporate vice president in charge of Microsoft Surface, said of the new products, "We do not call these Copilot Plus PCs." Kedar Kondap (케다르 콘답), senior vice president of Qualcomm Compute & Gaming, also said computers offering the same experience will no longer use the Copilot Plus PC branding going forward.

'Copilot Plus PC' was introduced as a name to distinguish Windows PCs with built-in AI performance. But talk emerged that basic AI hardware would be included in almost all PCs from 2024, and assessments followed that the need to maintain a separate brand had weakened.

The Recall feature, touted as a flagship Copilot Plus PC function, also failed to draw a positive response.

The Verge reported that Microsoft will install Nvidia chips in its core hardware going forward. Microsoft will hold an event on Oct. 7 on how local AI will shape the future of PCs. The Verge said a new brand that replaces the existing 'Copilot Plus PC' could also emerge at the event.
