Viva Republica, operator of Toss, is introducing its facial recognition payment service, FacePay, at cinemas in partnership with CJ CGV. It plans to expand the service so customers can pay with facial recognition alone, without cards or phones, from ticketing to concession purchases.

Toss said on Sept. 21 that it signed a memorandum of understanding with CJ CGV on Sept. 18 at its Sinnonhyeon office in Seoul's Seocho district to introduce FacePay in cinemas.

Under the agreement, the companies will install a FacePay-dedicated camera called the Toss FrontCam at CGV theater kiosks and link the payment system.

The Toss FrontCam is a facial recognition payment camera that attaches to the top of existing kiosks. Users can pay with their face without cash, cards or phones when issuing movie tickets or buying products at concession stands.

The companies will first introduce the service at CGV Yongsan iPark Mall before sequentially expanding its application to cinemas nationwide.

A Toss official said, "We are expanding service touchpoints so FacePay can be used conveniently at cinemas as well."
