Kakao Entertainment is pushing a global expansion project with Disney Korea to combine K-pop intellectual property (IP) with Disney stories and characters.

Kakao Entertainment said on Tuesday it has formed a strategic partnership with Disney Korea and will jointly 추진 about 10 projects over the medium to long term.

The two companies will collaborate by combining K-pop IP with Disney stories and characters, and plan to expand it to music, content, performances and commerce. They will also discuss additional cooperation plans, including the creation of a tentative "K-culture fund."

Kakao Entertainment operates businesses including content production and distribution across music, dramas and webtoons, as well as performances, commerce and a global fan platform. Through the collaboration, it plans to broaden the scope of IP use by linking K-pop artists and music with Disney storytelling.

It aims to pursue projects that link multiple business areas, such as music and video, performances and merchandise, rather than limiting the cooperation to a single content collaboration.

A Kakao Entertainment official said, "K-pop has established itself as a cultural phenomenon that influences lifestyle overall, including fashion and beauty, beyond content." The official added, "Through this partnership, we will cooperate so that K-pop artists and music can meet Disney stories and expand into a new universe."
