[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] Samsung SDS is accelerating its push into the physical AI market, based on expertise accumulated in manufacturing and its manufacturing execution system (MES) capabilities.
Samsung SDS held the enterprise AX conference REAL Summit 2026 at the COEX convention centre in Seoul on Tuesday and unveiled its physical AI strategy focused on manufacturing RX (Robotics Transformation).
Samsung SDS said its strategy through manufacturing RX is to lead automation and intelligence in real-world physical worksites, beyond large-scale digital innovation of manufacturing processes.
To that end, it established an RX Business Team and an RX Execution Team within its Cloud Services Business Division in June.
Samsung SDS plans to expand its RX business by forming the Team REX (Robotics EXcellence) robotics partnership to standardise interconnection interfaces among different robots and unify robot performance standards. It will build on MES-based manufacturing operations capabilities, uninterrupted operation of heterogeneous robots, standardised robot operating system verified at affiliates, and data security capabilities based on the Samsung Cloud Platform (SCP).
The Team REX partnership includes 10 global physical AI companies, including Rainbow Robotics, Walden Robotics, AeiROBOT and NdotLight.
In particular, Samsung SDS has reached a strategic investment and cooperation agreement with Walden Robotics, a full-stack physical AI company founded by researchers formerly at the Toyota Research Institute. It is pursuing joint identification of key use cases for manufacturing sites and technology validation.
It plans to validate the conversion of manual work at manufacturing sites through combinations of robot hardware and physical AI, and to roll out in earnest a robot orchestration platform that connects and operates production facilities and robots as one from 2027.
According to Samsung SDS, manufacturing robot orchestration is a technology that integrates and controls robots from different manufacturers in a factory with a single software system to coordinate robot movements in real time. It designs suitable routes so that heterogeneous robots with different functions, such as packaging, assembly and cargo transport, do not collide. It also serves as a robot-only central control system that detects a malfunctioning robot in real time and issues detour instructions to other robots so the entire factory does not stop.
A Samsung SDS official said, "Samsung SDS will actively support innovation for manufacturing customers by combining manufacturing expertise accumulated over 25 years and robot orchestration technology with global-level physical AI robot technology."
