Krafton Chairman Jang Byung-gyu (장병규) met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss cooperation in games and new technologies.

Krafton said on Sept. 7 that Jang held talks with Modi in New Delhi, India on Sept. 4 local time. The sides reviewed growth in India’s games, technology and digital entertainment industries and cooperation opportunities between the two countries.

They also discussed ways to support overseas expansion of games and digital content made in India. This was linked to India’s policy direction of “Viksit Bharat (advanced India)” and “Make in India, make for India, and make for the world.”

Krafton has invested about $250 million in India so far. It plans to invest the same amount additionally over the next 3 to 4 years to increase cumulative investment to about $500 million.

It also formed a $670 million “Unicorn Growth Fund (UGF)” with Naver and Mirae Asset. Through the fund, it plans to invest in Indian game intellectual property and startups and expand its investment scope to new technologies such as AI, robotics and deep tech.

It is also pursuing local talent and content. Krafton ran an industry-academia cooperation program called the KIGI Academy to teach game production and digital creation capabilities, and it acquired India-based studio Nautilus Mobile, the developer of the “Real Cricket” series.

Jang said, “Krafton’s continued investment reflects long-term trust in India and our commitment to contributing to India’s digital economy.” He added, “We will work with India’s creators, developers and entrepreneurs to build experiences and technology that work worldwide.”
