[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong] Apple is expected to unveil a raft of major new products at its product event on Sept. 9, including the iPhone 18 series, Apple Watch and AirPods. The possible appearance of the iPhone Ultra, cited as Apple’s first foldable iPhone, has emerged as the biggest point of interest for this year’s event.

On Sept. 3 local time, IT media outlet 9to5Mac reported that Apple is expected to introduce at least six products at the event, including three new iPhone models, two Apple Watch models and new AirPods.

The event will be held on Sept. 9. Apple Chief Executive John Turnus recently previewed the event as a large-scale launch. That has raised the possibility that more products will be unveiled than at the usual September event.

The iPhone lineup is drawing the most attention. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to feature Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip. Camera performance is also expected to improve significantly, with new colours added.

In displays, the Dynamic Island may become smaller than before. The iPhone 18 Pro Max is also expected to offer the longest battery life of any iPhone, on expectations of a larger battery and improved power efficiency.

But the product expected to draw the most attention at the event is the iPhone Ultra. The iPhone Ultra is being cited as Apple’s first foldable iPhone. If Apple adds a new form factor to its existing iPhone lineup, it is expected to become a key product of the event alongside the iPhone 18 series.

New Apple Watch models are also likely to be unveiled. The models currently expected are the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Apple Watch Series 12. Both are expected to be updated around a next-generation chip and strengthened health management features. The Apple Watch Ultra 4 may adopt new health sensors and design changes. The Apple Watch Series 12 is being discussed with an improved S-class chip, always-on heart rate monitoring and a ceramic material option.

In the AirPods lineup, the AirPods 5 is expected to be unveiled. There had been expectations that AirPods with cameras could appear at this event, but the release timing for that product is reportedly being pushed back to 2027.

That makes it more likely that the AirPods 5 will be unveiled first at the event. The AirPods 5 is expected to be split into a standard model and a model with active noise cancellation (ANC), and is expected to adopt a new chip.

A wildcard is the home product lineup. Apple usually focuses on iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods at its September event, but this year it is being suggested it could unveil a new home hub with a display. The product, said to have a 7-inch touchscreen, is being called the HomePad or HomePod Touch. With Apple having prepared it for a long time, attention is focusing on whether it will be unveiled as a surprise at the event.

Other candidates include the HomePod mini 2 and a next-generation Apple TV 4K. The HomePod mini 2 may adopt a new chip, improved audio performance and Siri AI features. The Apple TV 4K is also expected to come with a more powerful chip, Siri AI and an improved Siri Remote.

By contrast, products expected to be released this autumn, such as the MacBook Ultra, M6 MacBook Pro, M6 iMac and OLED iPad mini, are classified as more likely to be unveiled in October rather than at this event. Still, the possibility remains that Apple will unveil some products as a surprise at the event. Additional home products, such as a new full-size HomePod, are also being discussed as candidates.

Based on what is known so far, Apple may unveil the iPhone 18 series at the centre of the Sept. 9 event, alongside the Apple Watch and AirPods, and may consider adding new home products.

In particular, if the Apple CEO’s preview of a large-scale launch is followed by the appearance of the iPhone Ultra, known as the first foldable iPhone, the event may be seen as more than a simple annual product unveiling. It may become a moment when Apple’s product lineup is reshaped around a new form factor and an AI focus, observers say.
