T map Mobility said on Thursday it will introduce a distance-based "driving pedometer" following a positive response to its "T map pedometer" service.

The driving pedometer expands the existing "T map pedometer", which provided benefits based on step counts, to include driving distance. As navigation is a core function of T map, it allows drivers who use T map routinely to receive benefits.

Users receive the first "T map lottery ticket" when they accumulate 5 km of driving in a day. From 10 km to 50 km, an additional ticket is provided each time they reach a 10 km segment. Users can earn up to 50,000 won worth of T map points through lottery tickets, and accumulated points can be exchanged for various gifticons.

Another feature is that users can receive benefits for both vehicle travel and walking. Users who commute by car and then take an evening walk can receive separate benefits on the same day based on driving distance and step counts. Driver benefits increased as pedometer points were added to existing discounts on car insurance based on T map driving scores and mobility pattern management based on mobility logs.

Users can access the driving pedometer by tapping "Start pedometer" on the T map home screen and selecting the relevant tab. The pedometer screen shows driving details for the day and driving-distance trends over the past 7 days.

A T map Mobility official said, "The driving pedometer links pedometer rewards, which were centered on walking, to navigation, which is an essential function of T map." The official added, "We will continue to enhance the service so that users' everyday travel, such as commuting, naturally leads to benefits."
