Krafton unit 5minlab, a creative studio, has unveiled its new title 'World Fiction Control Association: WPCA' for the first time. It is targeting a global launch in the third quarter of 2028.
5minlab unveiled WPCA's first official trailer at Sony Interactive Entertainment's (SIE) State of Play (SOP) game showcase held on Sept. 3 local time.
WPCA is a hunting action game in which players track and quarantine supernatural anomalies called "fiction" that cannot be explained by modern civilisation. Players become a "quarantiner" in the Seoul branch of the World Fiction Control Association and fight fiction that threatens reality.
The video includes combat set in modern Seoul, different forms of fiction, and scenes of quarantiners' action and co-op play. Players can exploit enemies' weaknesses with normal attacks and skills, or neutralise fiction by using the surrounding environment. It also offers boss battles in which players face large-scale fiction in succession.
The game also includes progression elements in which players craft new weapons using materials obtained in combat. Players can build their combat style by combining skills, passives and equipment with random options. It supports single play as well as co-op play for up to 3 players.
Park Moon-hyung (박문형), head of 5minlab, said the studio is focusing development on a game that combines a setting in which quarantiners clash with fictional anomalies, urban fantasy set in Seoul and brisk action.
WPCA is set to be released on multiple platforms, including PlayStation. 5minlab plans to reveal the first test schedule and how to take part through its official Discord and X in October.
