Narcolepsy patients\' brains may be younger than expected, review finds
A research review has found that evidence supporting early brain ageing in people with narcolepsy does not appear consistently, despite severe sleep disruption. The finding is unusual given earlier studies linking sleep disorders to cognitive decline and dementia. Researchers reviewed prior studies on type 1 narcolepsy and brain ageing and pointed to orexin deficiency as a possible factor. They said this does not mean the condition prevents dementia.
