New separator membrane technology aims cleaner lithium extraction
Researchers have developed a biomimetic separator membrane technology that can separate lithium, a key material for electric vehicle batteries, faster and in a more environmentally friendly way. The artificial channel-based membrane is designed to let lithium ions pass while filtering out other components, simplifying complex separation steps and reducing reliance on hazardous chemicals and solvents. The team said it must still prove performance, stability and costs at industrial scale before commercialization.
