Bitcoin, ether shake off first-half slump; what conditions for a fourth-quarter rally?
Bitcoin rose 42.71 percent in the third quarter, its highest third-quarter return in nine years, while ether gained 70.8 percent for its best third quarter on record. The broader altcoin market also rebounded as institutional money returned and policy expectations lifted sentiment. Spot bitcoin ETFs saw $6.49 billion of net inflows in the quarter, and spot ether ETFs also drew funds. Markets are watching the Oct. 27-28 FOMC meeting and whether bitcoin holds $80,000.

Bitcoin short liquidations top $122 million as it retests $87,000
Bitcoin pushed through selling pressure in the $85,000 range and moved close to $87,000 before slipping back below $86,000, according to Cointelegraph. The move followed the clearing of sell orders that had capped prices through the week, Glassnode data showed. After the breakout, potential liquidation positions clustered above $87,300. CoinGlass data showed $122 million in bitcoin short liquidations over 24 hours and $210 million across the broader crypto market.

Bitcoin has entered an early phase of gains, but further upside is limited as a sell wall on Binance’s spot market caps prices, an analysis said. On-chain analytics firm Glassnode said Bitcoin has yet to turn into a broader uptrend backed by wide market participation, and that absorption of sell supply will be a variable for now. It pointed to waning spot Bitcoin ETF inflows and subdued trading volumes.
