South Korea privacy watchdog launches probe into Tving personal data leak

South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission has opened an investigation into a personal data leak involving online video service Tving. The commission said it received a leak report from Tving at 2 a.m. on June 3 and began a probe. Tving reported signs of unauthorised access to its database storing user information. Exposed data include IDs, names, birth dates, gender, phone numbers, emails, refund account numbers and passwords.

Tving CEO Choi Joo-hee (최주희) apologised for a recent personal data leak and said the responsibility lies entirely with the company. She said Tving has taken necessary response measures and is cooperating with investigations by the government and related agencies, while promising transparent updates. Tving reported the incident to the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Internet & Security Agency after spotting signs of external intrusion.

Tving reports member personal data leak, suspected hacker theft

South Korean online video service Tving said it confirmed that personal data of users was leaked after unauthorised access to a database storing user information. It said an unidentified hacker accessed the database and sent personal information files outside. Leaked items include IDs, names, dates of birth, gender, CI and DI identifiers, mobile numbers, emails, refund account numbers and passwords. The scale of the leak was not disclosed.
