Korea platform membership rivalry heats up: Naver points vs Coupang delivery vs Kakao connections

Naver commerce tightens chase of Coupang, bolsters membership with lower Netflix upgrade fee

Naver is lowering Netflix upgrade fees for Naver Plus membership users from July 1, cutting the monthly cost of upgrading to Standard to 6,500 won from 8,000 won and Premium to 10,000 won from 11,500 won. The move follows rising new installs and monthly users for the Naver Plus Store app. Naver aims to strengthen lock-in by combining OTT, points, AI shopping and delivery within one membership.

Coupang Inc posted an operating loss of 354.5 billion won in the first quarter, swinging into the red as customer compensation tied to a personal data incident and temporary logistics network inefficiency weighed on profitability. Revenue rose 8% to 12.46 trillion won, marking the first single-digit quarterly growth rate since its New York listing. Active customers fell 700,000 from the previous quarter to 23.9 million.
