Voice AI app boundaries fade as Granola adds dictation feature
Granola, known for a meeting-minutes app, has introduced a dictation feature, TechCrunch reported on Oct. 29. The move comes months after Whisper, known for dictation tools, rolled out meeting-minutes functions, as consumer voice AI apps begin to converge. Granola\'s dictation currently works on Mac and can polish and format spoken input before inserting text. Granola said iOS and Windows versions will follow soon.

OpenAI adds 3 real-time voice models to API for translation, transcription and conversation
OpenAI has added three new voice models to its API that support real-time conversation, translation and transcription, TechCrunch reported on Thursday. The company introduced GPT-Realtime-2, which it said has GPT-5-class reasoning compared with GPT-Realtime-1.5. It also launched GPT-Realtime-Translate for real-time translation during conversations, and GPT-Realtime-Whisper to convert speech to text in real time as a conversation unfolds.

Microsoft launches in-house voice and image AI models with aggressive pricing
Microsoft has unveiled three in-house AI models covering speech transcription, voice generation and image creation, a report said. The models are available through Microsoft Foundry and MAI Playground. The company said its transcription model posted a 3.8 percent average word error rate across the top 25 languages on the FLEURS benchmark and outperformed rival systems in most languages. It is also applying aggressive pricing and testing the model in Copilot and Teams features.
