Granola, known as a meeting-minutes app, has released a dictation feature, TechCrunch reported on Oct. 29.
It comes a few months after Whisper, known for dictation tools, introduced a meeting-minutes function. Consumer voice AI apps appear to be converging toward similar features.
Granola's dictation function is currently available on Mac, the report said. When a user presses the 'Fn' key and speaks, the tool refines the spoken content and formats it before entering the final text.
Users can handle note-taking, entering AI prompts, and replying to emails and messages by voice.
Granola said it will soon release iOS and Windows versions.
Granola and Whisper have valuations of $1.5 billion and $2.0 billion, respectively. Granola focuses on meeting-related automation and note-taking. Whisper has also moved into developing its own model through its research lab. The Whisper lab explores various human-computer interfaces.
Besides Granola and Whisper, other voice startups such as Fireflies, Speechify and Monologue are also evolving into multi-function apps with meeting-minutes and dictation features. While apps that did one thing well were dominant until early this year, TechCrunch said these apps are now seeking ways to draw more value from users' voices.
