Korea carriers step up experiences and exhibition perks for May family outings
South Korea\'s three mobile carriers are rolling out a series of May events aimed at families, including forest experience programs, message banner promotions and exhibition offerings. SK Telecom is offering applications for a long-term customer forest outing and a free add-on service for parents passing used phones to children aged 13 or under. KT is running a message banner event and keeping a telecom history exhibition space open on holidays. It also strengthened network checks at about 500 sites. LG Uplus launched a mobile app for its IPTV service and plans a Lego-run event on May 16.

LG Uplus launches U+tv Mobile app for watching IPTV on phones
LG Uplus has launched a new mobile application that lets users access its IPTV service U+tv on phones. The U+tv Mobile app combines content discovery, information lookup, mobile viewing, TV-to-mobile continue watching and remote control functions. Users can check details such as cast, release year, cumulative audience, trailers, OST, ratings and reviews. The company plans to end its existing U+mobiletv service at the end of May.

Korean carriers\' own OTT era ends as IPTV-led reshuffle accelerates
LG Uplus is moving toward shutting down its U+Mobiletv service, effectively ending the era of homegrown OTT services by South Korea’s three mobile carriers. The industry is shifting away from standalone OTT platforms and toward IPTV-led strategies that link existing IPTV subscriber bases with mobile services. SK Telecom and KT have already wound down their own OTT services, while carriers focus on companion apps, integration features and content investment to strengthen competitiveness.
