ELS fines cut to 600 billion won after local elections, financial policy in focus
With the June 3 local elections over, attention in South Korea’s financial sector is shifting back to financial authorities and the National Assembly. Issues that lost traction during the campaign, including governance reform at financial holding firms, digital asset regulation, loan rules for non-resident single-homeowners and a compensation liability system for voice phishing, may return to the agenda in the second half. Regulators have also adjusted ELS sanctions and stepped up work on consumer protection and AI security threats.

Toss Income wins first ISMS-P certification in tax platform sector
Toss Income, a unit of Viva Republica, has obtained the information security and personal information protection management system certification known as ISMS-P, it said on Sunday. It is the first case of an ISMS-P certification in South Korea’s tax platform sector. ISMS-P is run by the Korea Internet & Security Agency under standards jointly set by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Personal Information Protection Commission.

Toss Income launches preview of this year\'s tax refund ahead of annual income tax filing
Toss Income, a tax filing and refund support unit of Viva Republica, launched a service that lets users check an estimated refund ahead of the May comprehensive income tax filing season. Available to office workers and multi-job workers with earned income last year, the service runs in the Toss app through April 30. After HomeTax authentication, it calculates expected refunds based on actual income and filing history. Users can also check missed refunds from 2020 to 2024.
