Java may be better than Python for enterprise AI development - why?
Python draws strong interest as a language for enterprise AI development, but some argue Java can be a better choice. Microsoft’s Bruno Borges said the JVM is more cost-efficient when compared with runtimes such as Python and Node.js. Lower runtime costs can free budget for tokens and API calls when running hundreds to thousands of AI agents. New Java AI frameworks are also emerging, and Microsoft’s Julien Dubois cited Java’s strength in third-party integration.

Spring creator unveils Embabel Java AI agent framework, aims to rival Python tools
Rod Johnson, creator of the Spring Java development framework, introduced Embabel, a Java-based agent AI framework, at Microsoft’s JDConf developer conference. The Apache-licensed open-source framework is available on GitHub. Built on Spring Boot and written in Kotlin, it is fully compatible with Java. Johnson said Embabel aims to address predictability issues companies face in AI by balancing generative AI with more predictable Java code, using the GOAP pathfinding algorithm.

Roo Code says IDE era is over, ends VS Code plugin and launches Roomote autonomous agent
Open-source AI coding tool Roo Code will end its VS Code extension, cloud and router services on May 15 and shift toward an autonomous agent that works outside an integrated development environment. It has unveiled a cloud-based coding agent, Roomote, that connects with tools such as Slack, GitHub and Linear to handle tasks end-to-end and generate pull requests and changes for developers to review. CEO Matt Rubens said agents could eliminate certain types of work.
