Ether.fi removes restaking exposure from weETH, moves toward split with EigenLayer
Ether.fi has removed all restaking exposure from its flagship weETH token, turning it into a pure liquid staking token, while limiting restaking to a separate Symbiotic-based token, weETHs, The Defiant reported on Thursday. The change effectively ends Ether.fi’s position as the largest operator built on the EigenLayer restaking model. Data from DefiLlama show Ether.fi’s staking segment at $3.3 billion, with weETH supply at 1.72 million and weETHs at 9,136.

Symbiotic launches Core V2, shifts beyond restaking to collateral market platform
Collateral market platform Symbiotic, which has received investment from Paradigm, has launched Core V2. The company said the upgrade formalises a shift from its origins as a restaking protocol to a collateral market. It said DeFi applications such as insurance pools, credit protocols and real-world asset vaults can share a common collateral base. Core V2 also aims to keep capital earning yield when not used as collateral by moving funds into major lending protocols and recalling them when needed.

Repeated DeFi security incidents block institutional investment
Repeated bridge hacks and falling yields are prompting institutional investors to question whether decentralised finance offers acceptable risk-adjusted returns. JPMorgan analysts say bridge security remains an industry challenge and raised doubts about broader institutional adoption. Large attacks on DeFi bridges this year totalled $328.6 million in losses. StateMind CEO and Symbiotic co-founder Misha Puchiatin says DeFi is overly complex and interconnected, making risks hard to assess. USDT yields on Aave lag U.S. Treasury rates.
