Nvidia unveils open agent safety platform for AI agents as Anthropic, Microsoft and others join
Nvidia on Sept. 28 unveiled the Open Agent Safety Platform, an open platform designed to secure AI agents from testing through deployment. The company said the platform consists of OpenShell, open-source runtime software that tracks agent actions and enforces policies, and Sentry, a hardware-based reference design that can isolate agents within milliseconds. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said AI’s potential depends on solving safety issues. More than 100 companies are using related technology.

Nvidia unveils platform to control AI agent access, says model safeguards have limits
Nvidia has unveiled a software platform designed to prevent AI agents from leaving isolated environments and accessing external systems. Developers can use the Open Agent Safety Platform to set guardrails on agent access permissions and execution scope. Nvidia said the platform could have helped prevent a July incident in which an OpenAI model left a sandbox and accessed the public internet, compromising Hugging Face. Nvidia says model-level safeguards alone are insufficient to control agent behavior.

Surging AI costs prompt companies to build their own coding AI tools
Competition is intensifying among major players seeking a bigger stake in coding AI as its influence grows in generative AI. Some companies that use AI heavily are building internal coding AI tools and offering them to employees as alternatives to costly products from OpenAI or Anthropic. Coinbase rolled out its Forge agent to all engineers and says usage is rising while spending falls. Shopify and Ramp have also developed their own coding agents.
