Ontology emerges as core AI technology, not DB or LLM
Ontology is increasingly discussed in the AI industry as a way to overcome limits of generative AI, with interest rising after Palantir’s reported success. Kim Hak-rae (김학래), a professor at Chung-Ang University, described ontology as making tacit human knowledge explicit in documents or data. He contrasted it with relational databases, vector databases and large language models, and explained its structure, construction methods and potential as a guardrail. He also stressed data foundations matter more than ontology itself.
