National Science and Technology Advisory Council holds first PACST science and technology forum
South Korea’s National Science and Technology Advisory Council held the first PACST Science and Technology Forum with the Science and Technology Policy Institute in Seoul on Wednesday. The forum was set up to review the purpose and direction of national research and development over the past 60 years and to seek a future science and technology policy vision. It plans to hold four PACST forums in total through year-end, with sessions scheduled for Sept. 30, Nov. 4 and Dec. 16.

Why Korea\'s homegrown AI chips are not reaching market as software tool gaps hit on-device NPUs
Korea-made on-device AI semiconductors have reached global-level hardware performance but are failing to clear the commercialisation hurdle because of software barriers. Domestic NPU chips often drop out at the proof-of-concept stage because software development kits, compilers and related tools are not mature enough for customers to run them. Set makers say a lack of frameworks, profiling and debugging tools raises development costs, pushing them back toward Nvidia’s CUDA-based chips.

MSIT to hold Korea-ASEAN science and technology joint committee meeting in Laos
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said it will hold the seventh Korea-ASEAN Joint Committee and Workshop on Science, Technology and Innovation on June 24 to 25 in Vientiane, Laos, with ASEAN member states and the ASEAN Secretariat. The event will share policy, review existing cooperation projects and discuss new initiatives including AI convergence and efforts toward carbon neutrality and clean air, alongside an STI workshop to identify cooperation projects under a 2025-2027 work plan.
