GPT-6 boosts COBOL coding pass rates, handles legacy programming languages
OpenAI\'s GPT-6 series showed much stronger coding performance than earlier models in programming languages with limited training data, including COBOL, Fortran and Visual Basic. OpenAI released results from a new MultiLangBench benchmark that measures how well models build an SQLite-compatible database engine across 20 languages and pass set functional tests. OpenAI said the results could support maintenance and modernization of legacy software, while noting the evaluation was internally designed and would require expert review and further validation for real systems.

Supabase raises $150 million, to buy database startup Turso
Supabase, an open-source PostgreSQL-based database company, has raised $150 million and agreed to acquire database startup Turso. SiliconANGLE reported on Oct. 2 local time that Supabase also unveiled a new cloud service, Supabase Compute, alongside the funding. The round was led by Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC, with participation from Alphabet\'s CapitalG, IronArc and Square Peg. The purchase price for Turso was not disclosed.

AWS to acquire DuckLabs, expand embedded analytics with DuckDB
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is acquiring DuckLabs, the developer of the open-source analytics database DuckDB. SiliconANGLE reported on Aug. 26 that the deal could be completed as soon as next month. After the acquisition, the DuckLabs team will work with AWS to expand AWS and DuckDB data service capabilities globally. The non-profit DuckDB Foundation will continue to run the project.
