SanDisk open-sources SP Random algorithm to cut SSD preconditioning time
SanDisk has released its SanDisk Pseudo Random, or SP Random, algorithm as open source to cut enterprise SSD preconditioning time and improve data centre operations. The company distributed SP Random as an extension to the storage testing tool FIO, allowing broad industry use. It said preconditioning that previously took about 160 hours for a 128TB drive can be completed in 6.5 hours, and it can reduce preparation time by up to 97 percent.
