Jeonbuk physical AI pilot lab tests autonomous factory operations

Jeonbuk National University is testing technology that adds autonomous judgement to automated factories at its Physical AI Manufacturing Technology Pilot Lab in Jeonju. The 846-square-metre facility links robot arms, autonomous mobile robots, sensors and machine tools to share production plans and detect abnormalities. It can recommend responses, with plans to develop technology to directly adjust equipment and optimise multiple processes. The programme will expand through 2030 with central government funding.

U.S. Commerce Department moves to block China AI firms from remote access to advanced chips

The U.S. Commerce Department is drafting new export rules aimed at stopping Chinese AI companies from remotely accessing advanced semiconductors, The Information reported. A small team at the Bureau of Industry and Security is preparing a narrower alternative to the Biden-era “AI diffusion rule,” the report said. The rules would target access through overseas data centres in places such as Thailand and Singapore.

MegazoneCloud, KISTI co-host quantum computing hackathon to seek solutions to industry challenges

MegazoneCloud and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information co-hosted the finals of the Quantum Reframing Challenge 2026 quantum computing hackathon on Aug. 26. The grand prize went to Quanskkuad, a team of three Sungkyunkwan University students, for analyzing copper catalyst efficiency in converting carbon dioxide to ethylene. The event drew 214 participants from 73 teams, including students, researchers and industry workers.
