AWS breaks ground on new subsea cable linking U.S. and Japan, to launch in 2029
Amazon Web Services has unveiled Sta\'O\'Nuk, a new Pacific subsea cable linking Japan and the United States, targeting operations in 2029. The 20-pair fibre-optic system will provide 420 Tbps of bandwidth. AWS is focusing on diversifying landing points to reduce exposure to natural disasters, ship-related damage, fishing interference and geopolitical tensions. It also outlined multilayer security and risk-reduction measures for construction and physical access.
