Microsoft Fabric aims to be data platform for AI agents, targeting Snowflake and Databricks
Microsoft unveiled three new products at its Build 2026 conference to strengthen data infrastructure for AI agents. Fabric CTO Amir Netz said enterprise AI needs a “context layer” to operate reliably. Microsoft introduced Azure HorizonDB, a fully managed PostgreSQL-compatible database in public preview. It will add Nvidia GPU acceleration support to Fabric Data Warehouse in an early access preview in July 2026. Microsoft also launched Fabric IQ to define business concepts and boundaries for AI agents.

Snowflake, AtScale to jointly develop semantic layer linked to Power BI and Excel
Snowflake and business metrics software startup AtScale will jointly develop a product that connects with Microsoft Power BI and Excel. The companies said they will soon offer a preview of the jointly developed product through Snowflake Summit 26, Snowflake\'s annual conference being held in San Francisco. AtScale CEO Chris Lynch said Snowflake customers can define business metrics with AtScale software and use them directly in Power BI and Excel.

Snowflake agentic OS-style strategy gains traction, AI brand overhauled
Snowflake on June 1 held its annual Snowflake Summit 2026 in San Francisco and unveiled a range of new products targeting the AI agent market, while revamping its branding. It renamed Snowflake Intelligence to CoWork and rebranded its coding agent Cortex Code as CoCo. The company highlighted an Agentic Control Plane and introduced tools including Datastream, Horizon Context and Cortex Sense, along with new connectors and performance improvements.
