South Korea\'s AI privacy regulation friction among world\'s highest; 79 percent of firms burdened by consent rules
Nearly 8 in 10 South Korean AI companies say they face a heavy regulatory burden in meeting consent requirements for collecting and using personal data, a survey showed. A separate international comparison found South Korea’s personal-data regulatory friction score was the highest among 48 jurisdictions, tied with China. The findings will be presented at a joint academic seminar in Seoul on Oct. 15.

China clarifies liability for AI deepfakes and face, voice cloning
China\'s Supreme People\'s Court has set standards for judging civil liability arising from AI deepfakes, voice cloning and AI hallucinations. Using or disclosing an identifiable face or voice created by AI without consent may be deemed an infringement of personality rights, it said. The guidance also sets out liability for AI service operators that fail to act after notice, and addresses algorithm-based price discrimination. Authorities are also stepping up enforcement against AI falsehoods and impersonation.

NIA discusses AI legal and institutional tasks in healthcare, education and labour
The National Information Society Agency (NIA) held an open seminar on Wednesday to discuss legal and institutional responses to AI in healthcare, education and labour. The event in Seoul was part of the Intelligent Information Society Legal and Institutional Forum run with legal, industry, academic and research experts. Participants reviewed AI’s impact on people’s lives, rights and opportunities by sector and discussed reforms, including protections for human dignity and fundamental rights.
