Stablecoin remittance costs 84 percent lower than traditional transfers
A study found that stablecoin-based remittances cost about 84 percent less than traditional overseas transfers. Borderless reported that sending $200 cost $2 via stablecoin networks, versus $12.72 through conventional channels. The comparison used Borderless’ 2026 third-quarter pricing and World Bank data for the same period in 2025. Costs were also lower in Sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America. Stablecoin payments settled within minutes via local networks, while SWIFT typically settled the next business day.

Stablecoin growth bottleneck is banks, not blockchain
Stablecoin payments are expanding quickly in corporate transactions, but their main constraint is bank infrastructure rather than blockchain technology, the article said. Annualised stablecoin payments were about $390 billion at end-2025, or about 0.02 percent of the $208 trillion cross-border payments market. Banks still handle on- and off-ramps, compliance and local payment-network access, and reliance on a single bank is seen as a key operational risk.
