UK AI data centres face cable bottleneck despite power and GPU gains
A UK data centre expansion boom is being slowed by problems with the cables that link AI infrastructure, a survey showed. The study found operators are simultaneously grappling with cable procurement bottlenecks, latency and design changes as they expand to meet growing AI demand. Many said AI requirements evolve before deployments go live, forcing rapid upgrades, while insufficient early cable planning has led to delays and added costs.
