Apple signals major MacBook Pro, iMac overhaul, opening OLED, touchscreen era

Apple is expected to carry out a major overhaul of its Mac lineup from late this year through 2028, including MacBook Pro and iMac updates. Bloomberg reported the company is preparing staggered updates for MacBook Air, Mac mini and Mac Studio. A high-end 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro with OLED and a touchscreen is expected from late this year to early next year. Desktop launches may depend on memory chip supply.

LG Display posts Q2 operating loss of 107.7 billion won, swings to deficit

LG Display posted an operating loss in the second quarter, though it kept a profit trend for the first half. The company reported second-quarter revenue of 56.1 trillion won and an operating loss of 107.7 billion won on a consolidated basis, swinging to a deficit from the previous quarter. It said the loss reflected seasonal weakness and one-off costs from workforce efficiency efforts, while it pointed to results from shifting its business structure toward OLED.

Samsung Display hits 1,600 nits peak brightness for laptop OLED

Samsung Display set a new benchmark in the high-brightness race for laptop displays, saying it will begin full-scale supply of tandem OLED panels that meet VESA’s newly established top brightness grade, DisplayHDR True Black 1400. The certification requires 1,400 nits at 10 percent OPR while keeping black levels at 0.0005 nits or lower. Samsung Display said its panel reaches up to 1,600 nits, the highest among commercialised laptop OLEDs.
