MSIT fixes 13 of 17 repeat audit findings over past five years

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said it has completed measures on 13 of 17 issues that were repeatedly raised during parliamentary audits over the past five years. It said the government, led by the Prime Minister\'s Office since May, reviewed recurring findings and pursued institutional and policy improvements. The ministry cited steps including changes to laws and systems, budget increases and project implementation, while continuing improvement procedures for four remaining items.

MSIT launches K-Moonshot rare earth industry-academia-research council

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT launched a K-Moonshot rare earth industry-academia-research council in Seoul on Wednesday to strengthen supply-chain capabilities for materials heavily dependent on China. The ministry is pursuing a K-Moonshot programme that combines AI and science and technology. It plans work from 2027 led by three state research institutes to develop permanent magnet processes that avoid heavy rare earths, sharply cut light rare earth use and recover rare earths from waste magnets.

MSIT to boost support to link quantum research results to startups and commercialisation

South Korea will step up support to connect quantum technology research results with startups and commercialisation, the Ministry of Science and ICT said. First Vice Minister Hyeok-chae Koo visited Seoul National University on Oct. 1 to tour quantum research sites and meet industry, academia, research and investors. The government has set quantum as one of its seven SEED future growth areas and plans comprehensive support from technology development to startup creation, commercialisation and company growth.
