Bamitoongwi appoints, nominates 9 Democratic Party picks as public broadcaster directors
The Broadcasting Media Communications Commission approved the nomination and appointment of nine public broadcaster directors recommended by the Democratic Party. It decided to nominate four directors for KBS and appoint two directors to the Foundation for Broadcast Culture and three directors to EBS. The commission postponed a decision on one Foundation for Broadcast Culture nominee pending completion of fact-checking. It urged other nominating bodies to submit remaining recommendations promptly.

Hearing-impaired to watch disaster broadcasts in Korean Sign Language
The Broadcasting, Media and Communications Commission said a Cabinet meeting approved amendments to the Framework Act on Broadcasting Communications Development to require disaster broadcasts in Korean Sign Language to strengthen access for people with hearing impairments. Under the revisions, KBS must use Korean Sign Language, while other terrestrial broadcasters and certain general programming and news channel operators must make efforts to provide sign-language disaster broadcasts. The bill will be promulgated after presidential approval and take effect after six months.

Korea broadcast media telecommunications committee discusses policy cooperation with U.S. Nevada
South Korea\'s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Committee said on Friday it discussed with the U.S. state of Nevada ways to cooperate on broadcast, media and telecommunications policy, including protecting AI users and responding to disinformation. The delegation is visiting Nevada for six days from Jan. 5. It met Nevada officials and broadcasters, attended the opening of a KBS VVERTIGO exhibition at CES, and delivered a presentation at a CES-linked entertainment technology forum.
