KakaoTalk accounts auto deleted after 3 years of inactivity, personal data destroyed immediately

KakaoTalk will automatically delete accounts if users do not use the messaging app for 3 years, under a revised privacy policy effective Jan. 12, the industry said on Tuesday. The change applies to Kakao account-linked services, including partner and external platforms. Personal information will be destroyed immediately without switching to a dormant status. Previously, accounts became dormant after 1 year of inactivity and data was destroyed only after 4 additional years without use.

Kakao to build creator development model through KakaoTalk short-form

Kakao said on Jan. 5 it will hold the “KakaoTalk Short-form Challenge” through Jan. 25 to openly recruit official creators to be active on KakaoTalk short-form. Anyone interested in making content can apply without genre limits, and some businesses may also participate. Selected creators will carry out 100 days of staged missions and receive training, mentoring, rewards and awards. Kakao will also provide exposure support and business program experiences.
