Lawmakers criticise banks over interest rates, hacking, IT errors and governance questions at audit
Issues ranging from banks’ loan-rate calculations to hacking incidents, IT system management and financial holding companies’ governance were raised at a National Assembly audit. Lawmakers questioned whether banks cut preferential rates after tighter rules on loan add-on rates. They also probed differences in cybersecurity systems among banks and called for stronger standards. Delayed detection of internal system errors, including cases at Toss Bank, was cited. Governance and outside director appointment procedures at BNK Financial Group, Woori Financial Group and KB Financial Group affiliates were also questioned.

KB Financial holds employee AI agent competition, applies winning projects to work
KB Financial Group held a competition in which employees used artificial intelligence to solve on-the-job challenges and said it will apply winning projects to its work. The group said 116 teams and 316 people from seven affiliates took part, with 12 teams advancing to the finals. The top prize went to KB Insurance’s proposal for a customer care AI control centre using 20 AI agents to monitor counselling and claims work.

KB Financial to provide 6.9 trillion won in financial support for vulnerable groups and small merchants
KB Financial Group will provide 6.9 trillion won in financial support this year for young people, low-income and vulnerable groups, and small merchants and the self-employed. It will roll out tailored support through its KB National Happiness Hope Project, including 3 trillion won in inclusive finance, 3.5 trillion won in private mid-interest-rate loans and 450 billion won in write-offs of delinquent debt. It also plans additional youth-focused products and microfinance measures.
