Zcash hits 8-year high on ETF hopes, eyes XRP market cap
Privacy coin Zcash (ZEC) has climbed above $814 for the first time in eight years on expectations of an exchange-traded fund listing. It has recovered losses after an Orchard pool vulnerability in June and its market value has risen to $13.74 billion. Grayscale has filed final documents for a spot ZEC ETF, expected to start trading as ZCSH on NYSE Arca on Aug. 25. Investors are watching whether inflows after listing could narrow the gap with XRP.

Solana pushes plan to burn up to 9,000 SOL a day as vote nears
Solana validators have moved a governance proposal to raise daily SOL burns and slow new issuance to the stage just before a formal vote. The proposal would combine two changes, including a resource-based fee system to expand burns and a faster disinflation schedule that would bring forward the date Solana reaches its 1.5 percent inflation floor. Backing stood at about 63 million SOL as of Aug. 5.

Helius acquires Light Protocol to build Solana privacy infrastructure
Solana infrastructure company Helius has acquired Light Protocol and will develop privacy solutions for Solana. Light Protocol was founded in 2021 to bring zero-knowledge proof-based privacy to Solana but later shifted to developing ZK Compression with Helius to reduce data storage costs. Helius said the acquisition will refocus Light Protocol on Solana privacy, including private payments and private DeFi, with plans to reveal new infrastructure to developers within months.
