Japan speeds up \'physical AI\' push amid severe labour shortages
Japan has set out a goal of fostering “physical AI” as a core national industry, driven by population decline and labour shortages. Physical AI refers to AI that moves and reacts in the real world. Japan plans to build an industrial base with a target of securing a 30 percent share of the global physical AI market by 2040. The focus is on maintaining operational continuity in factories, warehouses and infrastructure sites.

Ybrain joins K-Moonshot project as sole BCI industry partner
Electronic medicine platform company Ybrain said on Monday it signed a business agreement to participate in the Ministry of Science and ICT-led K-Moonshot project as the sole industry partner in the brain-computer interface field. It said it will use non-invasive brain stimulation technology and clinical data to help set technical standards and build an ecosystem aimed at solving challenges in brain science. The company said its solutions are used at 767 clinics and hospitals.

Channel Corporation hires Global Brain\'s Lee Kyung-hoon as CAIO
Channel Corporation said on Jan. 5 it has hired Lee Kyung-hoon, head of Japan venture capital firm Global Brain’s Korea office, as vice president and chief AI officer. Lee previously worked at Boston Consulting Group and generative AI startup AKA before leading Global Brain Korea from 2018 to recently, overseeing Korea-Japan cross-border startup investment. He has also served as an outside director at Allganize and Realworld.
